Tax Deadline Extensions 2026: FCT-IRS and Anambra Move Filing Date to April 30
Taxpayers in Abuja and Anambra State have been granted a critical 30-day grace period to settle their 2025 annual tax returns.
The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) and the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (AiRS) both announced the extension on Tuesday.
Originally set for March 31, the new statutory deadline for individual income tax returns is now April 30, 2026.
The FCT-IRS stated the extension aims to provide taxpayers additional time to submit “accurate returns” and improve overall compliance within the territory.
In Anambra, AiRS Executive Chairman Ikeazor Okonkwo confirmed the new filing window runs from April 1 to April 30, 2026.
Okonkwo noted that the move aligns with Sections 13 and 14 of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025.
Both agencies emphasized that all filings must be conducted through their respective official electronic portals to be valid.
For Anambra residents, the approved platform is www.tax.services.an.gov.ng, while Abuja taxpayers must use the FCT-IRS tax portal.
The FCT-IRS highlighted that correct details, including National Identification Numbers (NIN), phone numbers, and addresses, are mandatory to avoid processing delays.
Meanwhile, Anambra’s tax boss warned that the April 30 deadline is final and will not be extended further.

Taxpayers are reminded to declare all income sources and provide supporting documents for any tax reliefs claimed during this period.
Failure to meet this new cutoff will attract strict penalties and enforcement actions in accordance with applicable tax laws.
These extensions provide a vital “breathing room” for Nigerians navigating the first full tax cycle of the NRS era.
